Timing Your Application

To stay informed about the latest developments:

  • Sign up for updates on the Energy Policy WA website
  • Register your interest with Perth Solar Direct for priority updates and assistance

Based on similar programs in other states, we anticipate an initial surge in applications. Perth Solar Direct recommends:

  • Preparing all necessary documentation in advance
  • Having your system design and quote ready before the application period opens
  • Being prepared to submit your application as soon as the program launches

While July 1, 2025, is the latest start date, the program may launch earlier. Perth Solar Direct advises customers to be prepared for an earlier start to avoid missing out.

To optimize your chances of securing a rebate:

  1. Install a battery-ready solar system now if you don't already have one
  2. Get a pre-approval assessment from Perth Solar Direct to confirm your property's eligibility
  3. Have all required documentation prepared and verified
  4. Set up alerts for the official program launch announcement
  5. Be ready to submit your application immediately when the program opens

Selecting Rebate-Eligible Batteries

While the final list is pending, likely eligible brands include:

  • Growatt
  • SAJ
  • Deye
  • iStore
  • Sigenergy
  • Sungrow
  • Tesla Powerwall
  • BYD Battery-Box
  • Sonnen
  • Alpha ESS
  • SolarEdge

Perth Solar Direct works with all major battery manufacturers and will ensure any system we install meets the scheme's requirements.

To maximize your rebate:

  • Synergy customers: $500 per kWh up to 10kWh (maximum $5,000)
  • Horizon Power customers: $750 per kWh up to 10kWh (maximum $7,500)

A 10kWh battery system will qualify for the full rebate amount.

All eligible battery systems must have a minimum storage capacity of 5kWh.

Eligible batteries must demonstrate Virtual Power Plant (VPP) readiness, including:

  • Ability to connect to the electricity grid
  • Capability to respond to signals
  • Ongoing internet connection with regular testing

Perth Solar Direct can provide detailed comparisons of eligible batteries, considering factors such as:

  • Cycle life
  • Depth of discharge
  • Warranty terms
  • Compatibility with existing solar systems

The program is expected to give preference to WA-made products. However, both local and imported options meeting the eligibility criteria will be available.

Choosing Approved Installers

Installers must be Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited to ensure compliance with the rebate program

Retailers and installers must have a Western Australian address for their business to participate in the scheme.

Participating businesses must continuously meet financial and integrity standards set by the program administrators

Retailers will be required to publish previous pricing ahead of each round of rebates for full transparency

Installers must demonstrate their ability to meet technical and safety standards, including being subject to compliance audit testing

When selecting an installer, ask:

  1. Are you CEC-accredited and approved for the WA Battery Rebate program?
  2. Can you provide a detailed quote specifying the rebate amount?
  3. What is your experience with similar rebate programs?
  4. How do you ensure compliance with VPP readiness requirements?
  5. What is your installation timeline, considering potential program demand?

Be cautious of:

  • Unusually low prices that seem too good to be true
  • Pressure to sign contracts before the program officially launches (Need to have Subject to WA Rebate clause)
  • Lack of clear information about the rebate process
  • Installers unable to provide proof of CEC accreditation

Work with Perth Solar Direct to develop a realistic installation timeline, considering:

  • Potential supply chain delays
  • Increased demand during the rebate period
  • Grid connection approval processes
  • Compliance with rebate program deadlines

Preparing Your Home

Perth Solar Direct can conduct a thorough assessment of your home's electrical system to ensure it meets rebate requirements, including:

  • Compatibility with VPP-ready batteries
  • Capacity to handle the additional load of a battery system
  • Compliance with current electrical standards

Consider:

  • Indoor vs. outdoor installation options
  • Ventilation and temperature control needs
  • Proximity to your existing solar inverter and meter box

Perth Solar Direct will assist with:

  • Submitting necessary documentation to your network operator (Western Power or Horizon Power)
  • Ensuring your system meets all grid connection requirements
  • Navigating any additional approvals needed for battery systems

To meet VPP readiness requirements:

  • Ensure a stable internet connection near the battery installation site
  • Consider installing a dedicated Wi-Fi extender if necessary
  • Set up remote monitoring capabilities for your battery system

Gather the following documents in advance:

  • Proof of property ownership or long-term tenancy agreement
  • Recent electricity bill showing your Synergy or Horizon Power account
  • Detailed quote from Perth Solar Direct specifying the eligible battery system
  • Confirmation of your system's VPP readiness
  • Any additional documentation required for the interest-free loan application (if applicable)
